A Magnificent Victorian Holiday at the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum

During the 19th and early 20th centuries, Christmas, like other elements of American social and material life, were transformed by new technologies and evolving traditions. The exhibition will tell the story of the families’ holiday celebrations and the Christmas tree and its origins as they both developed through history. The exhibit will display trees adorned with historic decorations, mantles festooned with period greens and fruits, a selection of vintage toys and games, and costumes worn during the holiday season.
