Victorians were known for their horror stories surrounding medical experiments, many of which were based on real-life research. Halloween tours at the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum will feature facts and fiction, and a little bit of spooky gore, including Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, inspired by Dr. Luigi Galvani, who, in the early 19th century, performed experimental treatments with electricity, and early 20th century’s Dr. Claire Williamson, known as a convicted murderer and “fasting specialist.”
Some of these doctors and medical experiment stories, whether true or fictional, will be part of the Halloween tours, which will be filled with compelling short anecdotes and mad scientists coming out of the woodwork. Tour goers beware!
